An artistic environment provided by his parents at an early age, talent that flourished in that atmosphere, years of professional training, unrelenting hard work combined with propitious decisions and artistic vision have all come together to shape the life of Rahman Altin; producer, composer and opera singer.

Rahman Altin who is a producer, composer and an opera singer has over 1000 notable jingles for commercials well known throughout Turkey. The SIYAD Best Music Award is only one amongst many that he has been presented with for the film scores of Cenneti Beklerken. He is the first and only Turkish musician who has been privileged to participate in the Film Scoring Workshop organized by ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and 20th Century Fox. His successful participation in this workshop has caught the eye of many famous producers in Hollywood. The composer who has a large composition archive, collected over many years, is now continuing his work in Los Angeles. He has made a great contribution to the film scoring industry in Turkey which has thus far been fraught with shortcomings.

Rahman Altin was born in 28 December 1971 in Ankara/Turkey. His father, Ozer Altin, a professional musician and a violin virtuoso, introduced famous names such as Emel Sayin, Secil Heper and Gonul Akkor to Turkish classical music while arranging the repertoires of such well known artists as Zeki Muren, Bulent Ersoy, Muazzez Abaci and Behiye Aksoy. The professional artist was then asked to form the State Classical Turkish Music Chorus of the Ministry of Culture in Ankara. Rahman Altin’s interest in music was manifest at an early age. He was undoubtedly influenced by his father, a musician and by his mother Gulseren Altin, a poet and a painter. The Herbert von Karajan records he listened to in his preschool years introduced him to polyphonic music.

Rahman Altin took part in TRT Ankara Children’s Chorus which was an acknowledgement of his talent as a child. The years he spent at the Ankara College till 1989, during which he became familiar with the synthesizer and the computer, were the years spent in soul searching and evaluation about music. After graduation at a crossroads in his life, passing over the option of entering the American Philology Department of the Bilkent University, he opted for a professional music education thereby attending the Opera Department of the State Conservatory of Hacettepe University. In his conservatory years he had the opportunity to work with such professionals as Yalcin Davran who helped him to discover his operatic voice and Muammer Sun whose experiences in the field of solfege he benefited from. After finishing the conservatory in 1999, he sang as a tenor in the Ankara State Opera and Ballet Chorus for approximately two seasons. In the meantime he worked as a composer and arranger in his own studio.

On an impulse in 2000 he decided to settle in Istanbul which proved to be a propitious decision. The magical ambiance of that city and the opportunities it offered provided the turning point for his career. There he composed various generic pieces for radio, TV and movies. That same year the jingle he composed for Tikvesli was well-light. While in Istanbul he composed more than 1000 commercials for such giant trademarks and services as Vodafone, Akbank, Teknosa, Vestel, Zorlu Holding, Ford Kargo, Linens, Telsim, Turkcell, Axess, Knorr, Dimes, HSBC, Yapi Kredi, Selpak, Fiat, Pril, PO, BP, Kalebodur, Tac, Pepsi, Oyak Bank, Tetrapak, Marshall, Banvit, Ford Transit, Panda, Hanimeller, Vakifbank, Bridgestone, Honda, Peugeot, Hyundai, Bosch, Joker, Vadaa, Is Bankasi, and MNG Kargo.

His compositions contributed to the development of trademark identities while raising the standard of the advertisement world. Upon reaching the peak of his career in Istanbul, he decided to widen his horizons by introducing his music to the world. That was in 2002. He was one of the 10 film music composers chosen by ASCAP and 20th Century Fox who had the honour to participate in the Film Scoring Workshop. During his time at the workshop he reinterpreted the music of the movie Anna and the King and he himself conducted an AA Class symphonic orchestra performing this music in Hollywood. Rahman Altin, who is the first and only Turkish musician who participated in this workshop which is considered to be the most prestigious organization of the film scoring world, had a standing ovation which pronounced him to be the unofficial winner during his Anna and the King music performance.

Upon first meeting the music director of Warner Bros and Paramount Pictures, two of the most prestigious production companies of the country, and then Joel Still who has made a great contribution into carrying Intermedia to its present state; he was asked to score Tom Cruise’s movie which was followed by the scoring of Alexander by Oliver Stone.

His composition for Bahar Korcan Fashion Show that took place in the New York Fashion Week in 2002 and 2003 was greeted with acclamation. The following year he brought Hollywood style music editing to Turkey for the first time with the music he co-composed with Kardes Turkuler for the movie Vizontele Tuuba.

In 2004, as a manifestation of his existing love for opera he co-arranged with Mercan Dede the music of a two act modern dance performance called Sehir Orman for the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. That same year he arranged Fatih Erkoc’s album “Beklenen”.

In 2007, he won the Best Music Award in 39th SIYAD Turkish Cinema Awards, the Best Authentic Music Award in the 18th International Ankara Film Festival, the Best Film Score Award in the 14th Altin Koza Film Festival with the music he composed for the movie Cenneti Beklerken by Dervis Zaim. That same year he composed the music of a two act modern ballet called Husnu Aska Dair for the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet. In 2008 he was awarded second prize for the jingle he composed for Hunca (Jagler Sport) in the 20th Kristal Elma Awards.

Rahman Altin who had the opportunity of working with professional musicians such as Oscar winning German composer Hans Zimmer, is now continuing his career in both Turkey and USA. In addition to his brilliant career he is noteworthy for his collections among which Star Wars collection - the second biggest in the world – takes place.
